PDP National Chairman Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed Charges New Gwagwalada Council Chairman On Service Delivery.
…..Urges Party Elders To Deliver At Home.
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammed Takushara, was on Saturday the Special Guest of Honour at a Special Reception in honour of Hon. Kassim Mohammed, the Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council.
The event which held at the Yesmin Event Centre, Gwagwalada, and had in attendance members of the National Working Committee (NWC). The National Secretary was represented by the National Treasurer, Hon. Odeyemi Oladiran, while the BoT Chairman was represented by Hon. Isah Dansidi the BoT secretary.
Also present were members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Executive Committee (NEC), the Local government party Chairmen of Kuje, Kwali and Abaji, AMAC party Chairman, the Nasarawa state governorship candidate Dr. David Ombugado as well as Hon. Hassan Sokodobo, and Hon. Isah Iga-dobi both former members House of Representatives representing Abuja South.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Abdulrahman congratulated the Gwagwalada Council Chairman on his election and thanked members of the NWC especially the National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, for exceptional effort during the FCT elections. He further thanked the BoT, stakeholders and party members who worked to deliver the party in the council election.
"Today we have an elected chairman in Gwagwalada Area Council and about 17 Councillors across the six area councils under our great party the Peoples Democratic Party and I stand here proudly to say that under the leadership of Samaila Yanchi, we have progressed in the PDP in the FCT.
" By God's grace under my leadership as National Chairman of our great party, we will do more. FCT is PDP and PDP is FCT. We know ourselves and when it is time, we will speak to our people in ways and manner that they will understand us."
Addressing the new council chairman directly, the National Chairman urged focus on governance and service to the people.
" To the Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, we know the challenges you face and we know there is a lot of heat but we encourage you to remain focused to deliver because people came out enmass to vote for you under the platform of our Party and we will be proud if you do your best in reaching out to the electorates most especially in the area of delivering quality projects to the people bearing in mind that Gwagwalada is one of the poorest among the six (6)area councils but we believe with you as a comrade and former vice chairman, you know what it takes to transform communities in Gwagwalada Area Council."
He further stressed the importance of unity and consultation in leadership.
" I employ you to listen and work closely with your leaders. Leadership is not about size or age, for if it were about that, I Abdulrahman would not have been the National Chairman of our great party but God said it was time", he said.
Speaking further, Hon. Abdulrahman called on party elders across the country, especially those who take pride in being called 'founding fathers' of the PDP, to take responsibility for the party’s performance in their states.
"It is no longer business a usual. You cannot be a founding father and elections will take place in your state yet your performance will be too poor. You cannot be a founding father yet cannot provide a councillor, Chairman, State Assembly members nor House of Representatives in your place. Under our leadership the narrative must change. You cannot be in Abuja and successfully claim and deliver your state. Go back to your states and ensure that PDP has a stable position in your states."
Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammad expressed special gratitude to the national leader of the party and Honourable Minister of the FCT, H.E. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Esq., for his effort, dedication and commitment to the party, "especially for taking the time to go round the six (6) area councils."
He charged Hon. Kassim to emulate the good virtues of the FCT Minister in revenue generation and in discharging his responsibility as Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, and further promised to intensify efforts towards helping to ensure that the IGR for the council increases.
Thanking supporters, he urged them to be patient and encourage the council chairman to discharge his duties, stressing that "the council chairman may have been elected under the platform of the PDP but it is now time for governance and governance is for all."
He added that he had no doubts that the elected council chairman will deliver his mandate free from tribal, religious or political party bias.
