CP Yemi Oyeniyi Directs Intelligence-led Patrols Across Roads, Waterways and bush Paths, Warns Against Abuse Of Power By Security Outfits.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, has ordered an intensified statewide security operation involving police patrol teams, vigilantes, forest guards and other recognized civil security groups.
Speaking at a strategic meeting in Asaba on Wednesday, 15th July 2026, the CP met with Patrol and Guard officers from all police divisions across the state, leaders of vigilante groups, forest guards and other security outfits. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations and other members of the Command Management Team were also in attendance.
CP Oyeniyi directed the groups to step up intelligence gathering and sustain patrols of forests, rural communities, and critical access routes including roads, waterways, railway corridors and bush paths.
Commending the outfits for their contributions to security, the Commissioner emphasized that all operations must be lawful and coordinated through the respective Divisional Police Officers.
"Effective community policing depends on collaboration, sustained patrols and timely intelligence sharing," he said.
The CP also issued a stern warning against unlawful detention, torture, dehumanizing treatment, and the use of security outfits to settle personal scores. He directed that any person arrested must be handed over promptly to the nearest police station.
He further charged leaders of the various groups to discipline their members, expel criminal elements from their ranks, and desist from shielding anyone who operates outside the law.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to lawful partnerships, CP Oyeniyi said the engagement will be sustained and replicated across all Local Government Areas to strengthen coordination and grassroots security in Delta State.
