Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Returns To PDP, Says APC Primaries Lacked Fairness.
The Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, popularly known as Ajangula, has defected from the All Progressives Congress back to the Peoples Democratic Party.
Fadeyi, who was among 5 National Assembly members that left the PDP for the APC in July 2025, announced his return on Thursday during a telephone interview with our correspondent.
“I am back in the PDP led by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. I have already written to the Senate. I can also confirm to you that I am the candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District for the 2027 Senate election,” he said.
The lawmaker’s defection comes weeks after he lost the APC ticket for the 2027 election to Mr. Adekunle Adegoke, SAN.
In his resignation letter to the Senate President, Fadeyi said he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Tinubu in his home state, and based on assurances that he would get the sole APC ticket for Osun Central.
However, he cited “serious trust issues” and a breakdown of internal democracy in the Osun APC as reasons for leaving.
“It was expressly agreed that the process for selecting candidates would be conducted on the basis of consensus. However, no consensus process was genuinely conducted, nor were party primaries held in a transparent and acceptable manner,” the letter stated.
Fadeyi further alleged that the manner of decision-making disregarded President Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to due process.
He also faulted the APC for granting return tickets to his colleagues one serving senator and three House members who defected with him while denying him the same opportunity.
He stressed that his decision was not against President Tinubu, but was driven by his conviction that “democratic principles, mutual trust and respect for agreements must always prevail.”
