Nigerian Men Cry Out As Domestic And Sexual Response Team (DSVRT) Reveals 194 Lagos Men Have Been Beaten Up By Their Wives In The Last Six Months.
A report released by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) on Wednesday which stated that 194 males had been beaten by their spouses or partners in the previous six months have sparked up reactions on various social media platforms.
The figure was published by DSVRT in its bi-annual report. The report, which was made available to journalists in Lagos, covers the period from January to June 2021.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the figure is 44.33 percent higher than the 108 assault cases reported by men from January 2020 to June 2020.
According to the latest report, the DSVRT, from January 2021 to June 2021, attended to 1,329 cases involving adults. The data showed that 1,125 of the adults, representing 85 percent, were female.
While some men have taken to social media to express their worry over the report, calling on fellow men to come out, speak up and avoid dying in silence, women have also taken to social media with reports and data to back up the claim that ; "for every male who gets beaten up by a woman in the home, there are over a 100 women who experience domestic violence in their homes daily."
