University Of Lagos (UNILAG) Sacks 2 Lecturers Caught On Camera During BBC's Investigation.
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has sacked 2 of its lecturers Boniface Igbeneghu and Samuel Omoniyi Oladipo who were caught on camera in 2019 demanding Sex in exchange of grades after British Broadcasting Cooperation embarked on an investigation with a young woman Kiki Mordi who was the foremost presenter of the documentary which came to be as a result of series of reports from students and former students of the university.
Mr Igbeneghu one of the two lecturers sacked who is also a pastor was suspended earlier while Oladipo was suspended following the investigation.
MediaOrchid recalls that UNILAG set up its own panel to also investigate the allegations seen in a videos which emerged in 2019.
The institution in a statement on Wednesday, revealed that the Sack or the duo was as a result of the report by BBC and further findings by the committee which was earlier set up by the University and further stated that the decision of the institution is in line with Section 18 of the University of Lagos Act 1967 and also emphasized the the dismissal of the two lecturers was endorsed by the governing council of the University of Lagos during a meeting on May 31.
The management of the University was also instructed by the governing council to review its sexual harassment policy and effective strategies in place to prevent future occurrence.
“ The council considered the report and findings of the senate committee set up to investigate allegations of sexual harassment levelled against them in a BBC World Service investigative series titled Africa Eye,
“ The council consequently decided and approved that both Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu and Dr. Samuel Omoniyi Oladipo be dismissed from the services of the University for misconduct, with effect from Monday, May 31, 2021.”
