Senator Samuel Anyanwu Charges President Buhari To Revisit South-East Development Commission's Bill, 

- Commends Southern Governors Unity Resolution. 

As call for urgent national dialogue continues to gather momentum, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to revisit the South East Development Commission’s Bill (SEDC) still in his custody for possible assent, adding that the step was part of measure to kick-start the restructuring.

Anyanwu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart in Imo State and Chief Sponsor of the Bill during the 8th Senate, maintained that once the bill was assented by the President, South East geopolitical region would gradually come next to development to compete with other sister zones in the country.

According to him, the (SEDC) Commission when established would generate employment opportunities for the teeming youths and wrestle other issues bordering on marginalization and underdevelopment of the South East zone.

Commending the resolutions of the Southern Governors which gave node for total restructuring of the country to fast-track development in all regions, he said that only an insane and uninformed person could criticize their stand.

On the call by southern governors on reappraisal of all federal appointments to reflect the national character, Senator Anyanwu expressed happiness that the idea would strengthen the unity of the country and reduce the incessant agitations for secession.

On their resolve to enforce the ban on open grazing in the South (including cattle movement to the South by foot), the PDP Lawmaker described the decision as a step in the right direction, adding that such enforcement would go a long way in reducing the spate of insecurity and illegal invasion of people’s farmlands.

The call for Mr. President to address Nigerians on the challenges of insecurity and restore the confidence of the people, Senator Anyanwu said that until the issue was addressed, the economy of the nation and other government’s activities would continue to be jeopardized.

He therefore enjoined Mr President to rise to occasion to avoid a total break down of law and order, stressing the need for all hands to be on deck towards guaranteeing peace through a coordinated effort with sincere mode of operations.

Anyanwu, a two time member of Imo state House of Assembly and Executive Chairman of Ikeduru Local Government respectively further charged everyone in the South to ignore political, religious and ethnic affiliations and concentrate on the issues that unite Nigerians as a people, expressing optimism that once every segments of the country embrace peace, tribal sentiment would be a thing of the past.

The erstwhile Senate Committee Chairman on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions further called on Lawmakers, Traditional Rulers, Community and Religious leaders in the South to rally round the call for restructuring of the country, pointing out that peace and unity remain meaningless under an atmosphere of rancor, acrimony and crisis.

Senator Anyanwu regretted that the federal government has not demonstrated genuine commitment in the fight against corruption and insecurity, wondering if the APC led administration was waiting to see Nigerians perish before drastic measures would be taken to rescue the situation.

Thanking the Southern Governors and Nigerians for standing on the part of truth, and adding that the economic plight of the Southern Nigeria is badly affected he stressed the need for urgent steps to be taken to bring it at par with her counterparts in the North.
