Security Agents Confront Imo Lawmakers, Exchange Words Over Kidnapping Activities With Official Vehicle Number Plates.



Not minding the upsurge in reports of Kidnapping activities and Insecurity In Imo state, Imo. Lawmakers have allegedly indiscriminately continued the wrong use of Imo House of Assembly official vehicle plates.

Following a recent incident where an occupant of a Mercedes 350 4matic jeep with plate number IMHA48 Security agents have decried the alarming rate at which official vehicles seemingly get involved in Kidnapping Activities. 


A source, a security agent who chose to remain anonymous speaking said, 

" There were indications that the plate number which was later revealed to belong to an aide of a lawmaker in the state was not registered with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) which made it difficult for us to trace family of the kidnapped victim.


" The victim of the kidnap incident was identified to be an aide to the lawmaker representing Oru west state constituency." 


Hon Nelson Ezerioha who was also contacted confirmed that the victim of the kidnap is his personal aide who was on his way from Anambra where he carried out a transaction. 


A News agency Watchdog reported that the security agent also revealed that they had called on the leadership of the house severally about the issuance of official number plates without going through the required procedure but the unlawful practice continued to thrive, 

" virtually all their staff including cooks have official number plates,” he added.


Speaking further, he also revealed that some lawmakers go the length unchecked to  provide these number plates to their friends and associates who are not their personal aides.


" It would be easier to identify Kidnap victims and know how to go about rescuing them if only number plates are registered appropriately,

 

" Security agents in Imo state have decried  use of these number plates to commit various fraud or crimes which kidnapping." he added. 


Another source from the House of Assembly speaking, revealed that the issue at hand has been recurrent but however got emboldened in the current house led by Hon Paul Emeziem who allegedly is yet to take stern measures to check and curb the menace. 


The House of Assembly source further revealed that, some of the cases of people using these unregistered IMHA number plates which traversed from the tenure of late Senator Ben Uwajumogu, the Rt. Hon Acho Ihim and Rt Hon Chiji Collins are currently with these number plates. 


Mr Samuel Ofoegbu the transport officer of the Imo state House of Assembly, when contacted over the allegation that he collects  #50,000 to issue these numbers, denied the allegation, stressing he has never taken money from anyone for issuance of number plates.
