WIPF Rounds Up Political Academy Training In Benue

 





Women In Politics Forum has Concluded It's Academy Training For Young Women In Benue State.


Women in Politics Forum (WIPF)  commenced intensive leadership training and empowerment program for young women in Benue on December 13 and ended December 16 2020. 

MediaOrchid recalls that WIPF had earlier announced that it would commence training of young women in politics in 2 states; Benue and Cross River states respectively.

The training which is supported by UNWomen Nigeria kick started in Benue and was declared opened by the Benue state  Commissioner for  Information, Culture and Tourism Hon. Ngunan Addingi and was graced with expert and seasoned facilitators who took the participants through the Academy's curriculum with modules which included; 'models of leadership and political participation /involvement to help achieve a better understanding of political initiatives , Training on Media (Main stream and New/Digital Media) and networking opportunities to broaden and diversify local network with connections in the public, private and non-profit sectors, Grassroot Mobilization' and many more.


Hon Addingi while declaring the training open said,

" Women Participation in Politics is about collaboration with the men to achieve a goal while creating safe space for the participation of Women in Political activities." 


" It is not about fighting men", she added.

The President of WIPF Barr. Ebere Ifendu in her opening remarks charged the young women who had come to participate in the training to pay attention to all they were to be taught stressing that the future is bright and dreams can be realized when there is a strong network and synergy of women in the political space. 


She said, 


" We will not continue to be cheerleaders, we do not clap and dance, we want to actively take part in politics and decision making process." 



Some topics covered by the Facilitators in line with the curriculum include;


- Media: Types, Use and Role of New / Digital Media in Politics, Concept of the New/Digital Media, Online Gender Based Violence and Hate speech against women in Politics and Role of the media in countering online hate speech against women especially in politics.


- Political Participation : Various forms and stages of political participation, factors that hinder women's active participation in politics and possible solutions to conquering the challenges encountered by women in politics.

- Grassroot Mobilization, Understanding Culture and Need of People.
