#EndSARS Protest: Oyo Dedicates Section Of Website For Reporting Of Police Brutality

 


Oyo state government has created an email account and also dedicated a section of it's website to help it's indigenes report violation of their rights by the police.


The executive Governor of Oyo state Seyi Makinde on Sunday in a statement revealed that thr initiative was in line with the state's efforts to attend to the outcry of #EndSARS protesters.


In a statement signed by the chief press secretary Taiwo Adisa, it was revealed that the state is putting together a judicial panel to Probe all forms of Abuses by police officers which will also be in accordance with the directives of the federal government as it concerns the nationwide protests.

“ Residents of the state can report cases of police violations via the email address, reportpolice@mail.oyostate.gov.ng or through the link on the Oyo State website, https://oyostate.gov.ng/reportpolice/, where they can fill out a form.


“ The platform is domiciled in the Office of the Governor and that it is aimed at demonstrating Governor Makinde’s determination to address the menace of police brutality, rights abuse and extortion, with a bird’s-eye view monitoring mechanism.”


The Governor who has been very supportive of the #EndSARS protests, also condemned the harassment of innocent citizens by police officers. He had earlier asked the police step aside and allow other security agencies monitor the protests in the state.

He also added that, 

“ Peaceful protests are a big part of our democratic process. The right to freedom of speech and assembly are guaranteed by our Constitution, and I will never support any attempt to rob citizens of their fundamental human rights,”
