About 300 Christian clergymen under the auspices of Christian Ministry Association and other Christian groups in Edo State on Thursday endorsed Governor Godwin Obaseki for a second term in office, saying Obaseki’s sincerity and passion for enduring human and infrastructural development pushed them into giving him an open endorsement.
At a gathering held in Edo Hotel in Benin, leaders of the Christian groups including senior clergymen such as bishops and senior apostles took turn to express their solidarity with the governor, adding that their members will be actively involved in the September 19 governorship election in the state by ensuring that their members vote and monitor their votes.
In his address, coordinator of 300 Pulpits for Obaseki, Bishop Ohis Emmanuel, listed the elimination of land speculators, ongoing power projects, road and other infrastructural projects as some of the unprecedented policies of Governor Obaseki, recalling that “in time past, there was a government that sent persons to harass pastors over signboards.”

Bishop Ohis in his remarks said,
“ The shoulder is part of the body, hence we have come in agreement with the voice of CAN; the voice of the PFN to carry you on our shoulder to victory come September 19th, 2020.”
Also speaking, president of Kingdom Minded Christian Association, Rev Sharp Okoro, said “we are the biblical Phinehas of Edo State to avert the return of the reign of terror, to say no to the return of godfatherism, to say no to the return of the lions and the tigers, to say no to institutionalized corruption and ungodly political patronage.
“We have come to install the people’s governor so that the people can rejoice.
“Vain Christians believe that prayers make Almighty God to become their errand boy, but we who are not vain know that faith without work is dead, so we are here to tell ourselves what to do after prayers.”
He pointed out that sensitisation of members for the election had commenced with the charge on them to keep an observatory distance on their polling units after voting and to snap with their phones declared results of their units.
The clergymen further implored Governor Obaseki to look into the fear of the church concerning the Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) and encourage a robust representation from Edo lawmakers in the National Assembly over the matter.
Governor Obaseki, who attended the gathering, thanked the clergymen for identifying with him, promising to do more in his second term.
