The National Agency For The Prohibition Of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) and other related offences has announced the commencement of a process of rescuing thirty Nigerian young women reported to be stranded in Lebanon.
In a statement on it's official Twitter handle, NAPTIP said the Director General of the Agency, Dame Julie Okah-Donli is working hand in hand with other bodies to see the women are rescued.
" In response to the video in circulation about some Nigerian girls stranded in Lebanon.
" The Director General of The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP is deeply concerned and shares the pains of the Nigerian girls who are stranded in Lebanon.
" It will be recalled that since May 2020, NAPTIP has, through the collaboration of the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Nigerians In Diaspora Commission, Delegation Of European Union To Nigeria and ECOWAS, the UN Migration Agency joint initiative and the Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon repatriated more than 100 victims of forced labour from Lebanon.
" The Director and NAPTIP will work assiduously with all relevant authorities, stakeholders and partners to locate these girls and ensure that they return safely as soon as possible.
" NAPTIP reiterates its appeal to young Nigerians to beware of people dangling tempting job offers in foreign lands as fake labour agents who are traffickers deploy all kinds of tricks to lure their potential victims."
This was following the reaction of Nigerians to a viral video in which young Nigerian women were seen appealing to the Federal Government to help rescue them from Lebanon where they are currently stranded.
