The Women in politics Forum (WIPF) in Nigeria have expressed infuriation over the recent violent attack of two female Legislators by a male colleague in Imo state.

In a press release issued By Barr. Ifendu  president of WIPF on Thursday July 9 2020, the organization condemned in strong terms the assault carried out by Hon. Samuel Otuibe.

 9th July,2020

PRESS RELEASE BY WOMEN IN POLITICS FORUM (WIPF) ON THE SHAMEFUL ASSAULT ON HON UJU ONWUDIWE BY ‘HON’ SAMUEL OTUIBE.

It is with great dismay that we write to express our consternation at the violent attack on Hon. Uju Onwudiwe, the honorable member representing Njaba State Constituency by “Hon.” Samuel Otuibe, the member representing Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency both in the Imo State House of Assembly in a manner most brutish, barbaric and un-parliamentary.
Our organization, Women in Politics Forum [WIPF] is a multi- Party Forum for Women, with a mandate to curb the marginalization of women seeking to participate in Politics and leadership.

“Hon.” Samuel Otuibe - while at a caucus meeting of the All Progressive Congress members in the State House of Assembly, convened by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Chiji Collins and held in the Deputy Speaker’s official residence- threw a wine bottle at Hon. Uju Onwudiwe with intention to harm her and repeatedly advanced to hurt her but for the timely intervention of some members of the House present at the meeting.

We in Women in Politics Forum strongly condemn and stand against all forms of violence against women in politics as this is a major reason for the low participation of women in politics.
In a time when the nation is battling with the hydra-headed monster of Gender Based Violence, “Hon.”  Samuel Otuibe’s actions is salt to the still fresh wounds we suffer as we remember a woman burnt to death in her home during the last Kogi State elections and a disgrace to tenets of good governance and responsible representation.

"WE ARE USING THIS MEDIUM TO DEMAND THE IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION, ARREST, AND INVESTIGATION OF ‘HON’ SAMUEL OTUIBE."

We must put an end to the menace of violence against women in Politics if we, as a nation will attain any meaningful development and nation building.

Finally, we are calling on his constituents to start the process of recalling him as their representative at the State House of Assembly as it is clear that he is not fit to represent the good people of Ahiazu Mbaise State Constituency, where there are worthy mothers, sisters, wives and daughters of Imo State.

Barr. Ebere Ifendu.
President, WIPF.
