Another Couple Arrested For Child Abuse In Enugu.

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested yet another couple in Enugu for Child Abuse.

Mr. Effiok Umo and his wife Nnenna from Okwojo Ngwo, in Ude Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu state were arrested by the police for allegedly abusing and physically assaulting thereby causing injuries on their 12 years old daughter Mercy.

Media Orchid gathered that Daniel Ndukwe the police spokesperson while addressing the press said the arrest came as a result of the information received by the Police commissioner Abdulrahman Ahmed on  July 12 2020 from the National Human Rights Commission Enugu which directed the divisional officer at 9th mile police station to get the couple arrested.

He said
"Preliminary investigation shows that the couple are used to abusing and assaulting the child for little or no justified reasons using objects such as; Sticks, electric wire, shoe heels etc.
Things however hit the roof when their neighbours called on police on July 10 2020 after Mrs Nnenna who is a step mother to mercy at about 10:30pm took to beating up mercy mercilessly for dozing off while slicing onions meant to be used in cooking at that time of the night."

Ndukwe speaking further assured members of the public that the Police will stop at nothing to arrest, prosecute and put to an end the increasing disturbing trend of Child Abuse across the country.

He described the act of child Abuse as wicked and inhuman stressing that it is against Fundamental Human Rights and will therefore not be entertained or tolerated.
