Tackle Poverty First To End Ebonyi Communal Clashes—Odii

Ebonyi PDP Governorship Candidate Dr. Ifeanyi Odii Calls For Leadership Overhaul.

.....Pushes For Fresh Policies, Mechanized Agriculture, Alternative Power And Accountable State Policing.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi state Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii (Odozi-Obodo Gburugburu) has pushed for fresh ideas to move the state forward. Speaking on proposed solutions to address the recurring communal clashes and developmental challenges in Ebonyi State during an interactive session with journalists, he said that the issues can be solved first, by tackling poverty in the state.

Odii speaking further stressed that, Nigeria's leadership recruitment process must be reviewed to encourage individuals with practical solutions to the country's pressing challenges to seek public office.

He added that Ebonyi State, one of the poorest in Nigeria, needs fresh ideas to revive its agricultural sector, develop its solid minerals industry, improve power supply, and tackle insecurity. He also shared his views on the establishment and operation of state police in the region.

"Today, what is happening in Ebonyi State can hardly be described as good governance. Imagine if every state in Nigeria had responsible and effective governance. The pressure on the media, security agencies and even citizens would be significantly reduced.

"What Nigeria needs is leadership. We need proper governance. Until we get the right leadership, Nigeria will not work.

Addressing the issue of power supply, Dr. Odii said,

" When it comes to power supply, there is virtually nothing that a determined government cannot achieve within four years. Today, there are many alternative sources of electricity, especially with the new Electricity Act, which empowers states and even private individuals to generate electricity for their own use or sell it.

"Personally, I am completely off the national grid. I used to spend a lot of money on electricity, but today I generate my own power. If I can achieve that as an individual, then government can certainly scale it up. I always like to lead by example in everything I propose for Ebonyi State.

"Secondly, we must embrace aggressive mechanised agriculture not just farming in the traditional sense. Agriculture can also be used to generate energy. Cassava can produce biogas, while corn waste and rice husks can be converted into electricity through modern technology. These are practical solutions that can be implemented.

Speaking on insecurity he said the concept of "state policing" is commendable but warned some governors against abusing the concept.

"On the issue of security, if we are sincere as a nation, state policing is not a bad idea. However, if we are not careful, some governors may misuse state police against political opponents, creating even greater problems.

" History has shown that the more people are oppressed, the more hidden tensions build up until they eventually erupt into bigger crises.

" Looking at the insecurity across Nigeria today, we must ask ourselves whether we want the situation to continue. If state police are established, they must be deployed solely to address insecurity and protect lives and property not as political tools. That is the only way they can help tackle the insecurity that is spreading across the country", he added.
