FCT Command Traces Incident To Karu LGA In Nasarawa.
The FCT Police Command has debunked social media reports alleging that a serving military officer, Colonel Abdussalam A. Ude, was attacked by suspected kidnappers within the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement on Monday, 28th July 2026, the Command said that while it acknowledges the seriousness of the report, investigations show the incident did not occur within the FCT.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, ordered an in-depth investigation after the publications surfaced online. Findings revealed that the incident took place in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, outside the jurisdiction of the FCT Police Command.
The Command expressed concern that some blogs and media outlets deliberately attributed the incident to the FCT "in an attempt to gain traction," a move it said has created unnecessary panic, heightened public anxiety, and misinformed residents of the nation’s capital.
A statement the command reveals that as a proactive measure, CP Sanusi has ordered the immediate deployment of operational and intelligence assets to border communities adjoining the FCT and Nasarawa State to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating the capital or perpetrating any crime within the territory.
The police also strongly condemned false and unverified publications. It called on media organisations, bloggers, and social media users to uphold responsible and objective journalism by verifying security-related information with appropriate authorities before dissemination.
"The spread of unverified reports not only misinforms the public but also undermines public confidence and creates unnecessary fear," the statement added.
The Command urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and to promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
