PDP National Caretaker Committee Attends INEC Meeting

PDP Caretaker Committee, led by Hon. Abdulrahman Muhammad, attends INEC quarterly meeting in Abuja, represented by Acting Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed, Acting Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and National Organising Secretary Umar Bature.

The acting chairman and secretary occupied seats labelled "PDP Chairman" and "PDP National Secretary", respectively. This comes after a Federal High Court in Ibadan nullified the PDP National Convention held on November 15, 2025, directing Tanimu Turaki and others to cease parading themselves as national officers.. 

Prior to the judgment, some PDP governors had backed the Ibadan Convention that produced Turaki, others for a supposed four-year tenure ahead of Damagum's tenure expiration on December 9, an action widely described as erroneous. However, the FCT Minister, alongside his allies Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, insisted they remained the Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary, respectively.

A faction established a 13-member caretaker committee on December 8, naming Mohammed, Anyanwu, and others to serve with a 60-day mandate. Both the Turaki Makinde bloc and the Wike-aligned faction approached INEC seeking official recognition, but the electoral body declined to acknowledge either side, sparking multiple legal disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking exclusively to Mediaorchid correspondent, Anyanwu revealed they were invited to the meeting as recognised leaders and applauded the court ruling, pledging to organise a fresh convention to elect new NWC members. He said the court ruling has ended the PDP's internal crisis, and the party's leadership remains intact under Abdulrahman Mohammed and himself. The Turaki-led PDP NWC has announced plans to file an immediate appeal and pursue all available legal remedies.
