Tinubu Boosts Morale Of Super Eagles, Falcons, Others,

.....Pays Outstanding Salaries.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has boosted the morale of the Super Eagles with the payment of their outstanding salaries running into several months, that of the team’s coach, Jose Peseiro, the Super Falcons and other national teams, male and female.

A statement sighted on Tinubu Media Centre by Sporting Tribune read, “President @officialABAT has approved the payment of N12 billion outstanding backlog for Nigeria’s National teams of various sports, which includes Super Eagles and others.

“The payment entails the clearing of the senior national team coach salaries running up to 15 months, payments of allowances and promises due to the senior national teams, females, and Under-20 national team.

“This is coming at a time when the Super Eagles of Nigeria are preparing to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, which is billed to start later this month.”

There had been allegations against the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of not paying the allowances due to the various national teams in their recent outings and the most talked about being the bonuses and allowances of the Super Falcons which featured at last year’s Women’s World Cup which was hosted by Australia and New Zealand a report by Tribune revealed. 

The approval by the president is believed to be timely for the three-time African champions, the Super Eagles, who are presently in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, rounding off their preparations for the AFCON which kicks off on Saturday, 13th January, 2024 in Ivory Coast.

Coach Peseiro had already released a 25-man list to prosecute the African football fiesta scheduled to hold from January 13 to February 11, 2024.

Nigeria is in Group A alongside Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and host, and Ivory Coast (the hosts).

The Super Eagles who are seeking a fourth continental title emerged champions on home soil in 1980 whipping the Desert Warriors of Algeria 3-0 in the final at the National Stadium, Lagos, in 1994 in Tunisia at the El Menzah Stadium defeating the Chipolopolo of Zambia 2-1 and a decade ago in South Africa, under the tutelage of the ‘big boss’, the late Stephen Keshi where a solitary Sunday Mba’s strike won the third trophy for Nigeria in 2013.
