EKITI : APC To Inspect Election Materials

Petition Tribunal Orders INEC To Allow All Progressives Congress (APC) Inspect All Documents, Materials Used In June 18 Governorship Election.

The Ekiti State Election Petition Tribunal has given the All Progressives Congress the nod to inspect the forms, materials and documents used by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct of the June 18 governorship election in the state.

The Social Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Chief Segun Oni, had filed a petition before the tribunal challenging the declaration by INEC of the APC governorship candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, as the winner of the poll and governor-elect.

The tribunal, headed by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, had earlier granted the SDP leave to inspect the materials used for the election, which led the APC legal team to file a motion ex parte to the tribunal to inspect the materials as well.

In the motion brought by Kabir Akingbolu on behalf of Chief Akin Olujimi, SAN, the APC has, among others, sought “an order of the tribunal permitting the APC or its agents, for the purpose of defending the petition, to take certified copies and conduct manual/physical inspection of all electoral materials used in the conduct of the governorship election into the office of the governor of Ekiti State held on June 18, 2022, in all the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State.”

The APC is also seeking “an order of the tribunal directing the fourth respondent (INEC) and any other agents of the fourth respondent to allow the APC and/or its counsel to inspect and, if deemed necessary, make/procure certified true copies of the BVAS, accredited voters, and print-outs, scanned and transmitted documents, among others.”

In his ruling, the tribunal chairman, Justice Kpochi, granted the prayers of the APC, saying, “It is germane for the applicant to defend the petition.”

The tribunal ordered INEC to allow the APC to inspect all documents and materials used in the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti.
