Communique Issued At The Meeting Between The National Woman Leader Of The PDP And All Female Aspirants From 36 States.
COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE MEETING BETWEEN THE NATIONAL WOMAN LEADER OF THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) AND ALL FEMALE ASPIRANTS FROM THE 36 STATES OF THE FEDERATION AND THE FCT: 25TH OF APRIL, 2022 AT THE NEC HALL OF THE PDP NATIONAL SECRETARIAT, ABUJA.
PREAMBLE:
The meeting (Physical and Virtual) between the National Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Stella Effah-Attoe and the Female Aspirants under the umbrella of the PDP from across the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT was held at the NEC Hall of the National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja. The meeting was aimed at creating a forum for an Interactive Session between the Female Aspirants and the Office of the National Woman Leader with a view to getting them prepared for the forthcoming Primary Elections. The National Woman Leader is of the opinion that women should not contest for Contest Sake anymore, but to Contest and Win. Political Veterans like Iyom Mrs Josephine Anenih (former PDP National Woman Leader and former Minister of Women Affairs), Hajiya Mariam Inna Ciroma (former Minister of Women Affairs and former National Woman Leader), Senator Stella Omu (former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and former Senate Majority Whip), Ambassador Dr. Kema Chikwe (former Minister of Aviation and former National Woman Leader of the PDP) and Princess Dr. Omobolanle Ogundiran ( PDP Stakeholder and Mobilizer), served as Resource persons for the meeting. The meeting was well attended with over 250 Female Aspirants as participants. The interactive meeting was the first of its kind. It is unprecedented. Below is the communique issued from the meeting.
NATIONAL WOMAN LEADER:
1. The National Woman Leader of the PDP stated that about 250 Female Aspirants have obtained, filled and submitted their nomination forms to contest for various positions across the Country; ranging from State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship and the Office of the President.
2. The National Woman Leader Advocates for a Level Playing Ground for Women Aspirants in All Contests.
3. The National Woman Leader promised to give the Female Aspirants all the necessary support through ADVOCACY to ensure that more women emerge victorious at the Primaries.
4. This Communique will be brought to the attention of all PDP State Governors, PDP State Party Chairmen and all Critical Stakeholders.
ASPIRANTS:
5. It was agreed that Female Aspirants should consult and canvass support from the following: Political Gatekeepers such as their State Party Chairmen, Local Government Party Chairmen, Ward Party Chairmen, State Women Leaders, Local Government Women Leaders, Ward Women Leaders, Traditional Rulers and other Party Stakeholders.
6. Female Aspirants were advised to take the process of contesting election very seriously. Women should not just pick forms for picking sake or for other political reasons. Women are advised to be Focused on Winning Elections.
7. Aspirants were advised to be sure they are qualified for the position they are vying for. This is so because in the past, many Aspirants had given the Party a bad name when their credentials could not match their claims.
8. Female Aspirants were advised to engage themselves with the Media (Print, Electronic and the Social Media) to pass their Campaign Messages across.
9. Female Aspirants were admonished to be dogged because their desires will not be gotten on a Platter of Gold. Hard work will complement the Monetary aspect.
10. The Aspirants were admonished to adopt Consensus Building by supporting one another. All women Aspirants should work hard to win fellow women votes.
11. Women Aspirants were advised to go about their political activities with respect to everyone and to the Stakeholders. They should also create Networks.
12. Women should be Conscious of their Security as they go about their campaigns.
13. Female Aspirants should identify Point Persons amongst the Delegates in every Ward to canvass the support of others for them.
14. Women were generally charged to do all they can to Rescue and Rebuild Nigeria.
NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE (NEC):
15. A Position Paper in support of women should be sent from this meeting to NEC to actualize the 35% Affirmative Action.
GOVERNORS:
16. The PDP Governors should be encouraged to bring forward female successors.
STATE WOMEN LEADERS:
17. All State Women Leaders should be encouraged to mobilize Women Delegates to vote for Female Aspirants during the Primaries.
WOMEN STAKEHOLDERS:
18. Women who have resources should encourage female Aspirants by supporting them financially.
