ONDO: Angry Protesters Chase Police Officers Out Of Station In Akure




Fear Grips Residents  In Akure As Group Of Okada Riders Invade Police Station, Attack Officers On Duty.

 


Information reaching the news desk of MEDIAORCHID reveals that a group of motorcyclists in Akure the Ondo State capital on Wednesday mobilized, invaded a police division and attacked officers on duty.


According to sources, the group gained entrance into the premises after breaking the gate and began throwing stones into the building causing the police officer to flee for safety. 


While some Policemen are reported to have  scaled the fence and took to their heels, others are reported to have struggled to move their vehicles away from the barracks.


The cyclists popular called Okada riders set bonfires in front of the A Division while  demanding to see the policeman who allegedly shot of theirs dead.


According to sources, a driver had knocked down and killed one okada rider and a cocoa merchant at Arakale area of Akure resulting  to the death of both men. The death of the Okada rider is said to have led to the Protests. 


Sources further revealed that a policeman who was attached to a filling station in the area fired shots in the air to scare the protesters away, unfortunately, his bullet hit one of the Okada riders who also died. 


The policeman according to reports fled the scene and has been in hiding sparking off more Protests. Gunshots fired by the police angered the okada riders who began hauling stones and other objects into the building.


An eyewitness account reveals many policemen scaled the fence to see refuge. 


The Ondo stats Police Spokesperson , DSP Fumilayo Odunlami as at press time, said she was yet to be briefed about the incident
