PDP Governorship Candidate Scores High Marks At Arise News Debate.
Valentine Ozigbo, the flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2021 Anambra governorship election, has warned Ndi Anambra to beware of candidates who have contributed to the decay in the state.
Mr Ozigbo gave the caution on Monday, November 1, 2021, during a governorship debate organised by Arise TV and the Enough is Enough group.
The debate was held between PDP's Ozigbo, APC's Sen Andy Uba and APGA's Prof Charles Soludo at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, and co-hosted by Dr Reuben Abati and Ngozi Alaegbu.
While speaking at the debate, Ozigbo described the current decay in all sectors in Anambra as "heartbreaking and heartwrenching," stating that the best way to do away with key actors of the dysfunctional past is rejecting them at the polls.
"How do stop the rot and the decay? It is by doing away with the dysfunctional past and embracing a leader who understands global trends and is passionate about effecting true change," Ozigbo, a respected business leader, said.
"If you create the problem, you cannot be part of the solution. Anambra needs a young, vibrant CEO, and I believe I can solve the state's problems.
"I am bringing to bear decades of experiences in diverse fields that are relevant to the fundamental problems plaguing Ndi Anambra, from economy to finance, hospitality, oil and gas, power, agribusiness, sports, entertainment, education and philanthropy," Ozigo added.
While answering questions on security and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ozigbo reiterated his earlier stance on the need to release IPOB's leader, Nnamdi Kanu and de-proscribe the secessionist group.
"I'm not satisfied that we allowed insecurity to reach such a destructive dimension before moving to curb it. How come we are not bringing people to book? How come intelligence hasn't identified any culprit?" Ozigbo questioned.
"The single most crucial need of Ndi Anambra is security. Nothing can function security, and the reality is that APGA has failed at the state level, and APC has failed at the national level.
"Nothing has worked in recent times, and Ndi Anambra are clamouring for positive change."
"IPOB started due to failed leadership, and Nnamdi Kanu has attempted to fill the leadership vacuum. I have revealed my stance and will repeat it; the Federal Government must release Nnamdi Kanu and de-proscribe IPOB. This will drastically reduce insecurity and douse the agitations.
While speaking on the environment, Ozigbo stated that Anambra is suffering from the effects of the abandonment of governance, promising to leverage the power of the private sector and multilateral organisations.
On the economy, Ozigbo highlighted key policies and approaches that are embedded in his Ka Anambra Chawapu Manifesto, promising to bring true change and make Ndi Anambra proud of their home state.
"Money goes to where money is comfortable, and our terrain is grossly uncompetitive," Ozigbo remarked.
"The 'Aku Ruo Ulo' of Governor Willie Obiano is dead on arrival because Anambra lacks the enabling environment to make businesses thrive. I have seen several business moguls who decided to invest in Anambra and fail because it is not sustainable.
"Our cluster approach, which experts have applauded, will see Onitsha Cluster emerge as a true commercial hub and Nnewi axis as an industrial hub. Awka, which is a glorified village, will be repositioned as a true state capital, Omambala will be a hotbed for agricultural production, and the Old Aguata Cluster will be the home of our technology hub," Ozigbo declared to loud cheers from the audience.
Ozigbo, who is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, also emphasised the need for Ndi Anambra to elect a governor who is humble and will listen to the ideas of others and not be a god unto himself and the people.
"A true leader must be humble and ready to take advice from people, because nobody knows it all. I am humble enough to accept that I do not have a monopoly of knowledge, and where I am lacking, I know how to assemble a team and get results," Ozigbo added.
A frontrunner tipped to win the November election, Valentine Ozigbo's Ka Anambra Chawapu movement has seen him emerge as the grassroots favourite to win the November 6 guber election.
Ozigbo's revolutionary ideas for transforming healthcare, education, economy, social services and other key human development indices have endeared him to Ndi Anambra both home and abroad.
