21-Years-Old Girl Detained, Enslaved By Police IRT For 70 Days Has been Granted Bail.
Glory Okolie, the 21-year-old girl arrested and enslaved by the Inspector-General’s Intelligence Response Unit (IRT), has been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Glory was arrested as bait for a wanted member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). She was accused of spying for the outlawed group, sending and receiving funds on behalf of the secessionists.
A report by the foundation for investigative journalism revealed that On Tuesday, Glory filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja to demand her immediate and unconditional release from Police custody. She asked the court to mandate the Police to pay her a sum of N100 billion as damages for infringing on her rights.
On Thursday, the human rights activist demanding Glory’s unconditional release, was invited by the Police for questioning over a murder petition. He had been asked to show up for an interview with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (ZCID), in Benin.
“Glory Okolie detained by IRT Nigeria Police for the past 74 days granted bail by FCT High Court, Abuja, N2 million and level 12 officer as bond and surety.” he announced.
