Senator Samuel Anyanwu the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chieftain from Imo State, in a statement issued on Thursday July 1 2021, called on Igbos to come out en mass and participate actively in the ongoing Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters’ registration exercise, describing it as the only way to overcome marginalization.
Anyanwu also enjoined every Igbo adult in the Diaspora to register online, adding that such exercise will give the South East the edge to decide the outcome of 2023 general elections.
According to him, “the population of the South East geopolitical zone will not only be redoubled or boosted, but will place the zone on the map of success if qualified Igbos should come out and be registered”.
“This is the shortest route to Aso Rock, if only we can jettison every other distractions and get registered. It is another rare opportunity to increase our population so as to stand a chance to decide what happens in future elections. All of us should forget the past experience we encountered and remain focused. With one voice, we shall get there”
He expressed bitterness how the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has used harsh administrative policies to relegate the zone to the wall, stressing that any attempt to subvert the interest of the South East in the ongoing voters’ registration exercise in lieu of 2023 elections will not be tolerated.
Senator Anyanwu therefore called on the Traditional Rulers, Community and Religious leaders within the region to assist in sensitizing the rural dwellers on the need to embrace the ongoing voters’ registration exercise.
