WIPF Says, 'Women In Dire Need Of Leadership,' As The World Battles #Covid_19

 

WIPF Calls On Women To #ChooseToChallenge Obstacles Limiting Adequate Representation Of Women And Girls.

....Says Women Are Natural Born Leaders.

 

Women In Politics Forum (WIPF) in commemoration of this year's International Women's Day Celebration, has stressed on the fact that women are in dire need of leadership in the battle against the Coronavirus, a pandemic which countries around the world are currently faced with. 

A Press release signed by Barr Ebere Ifendu, the president of the WIPF, described women as 'natural born leaders.'

“Women are naturally born leaders” this quote is apt in this time of Covid19 pandemic. Across various sectors of the world’s economy, women have proven to be resilient and capable of steering the ship wherever and whenever called upon. From international arena to local level, women have excelled tremendously. Of fundament importance is that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, did not deter women from aiming high and achieving lofty feats. WIPF can confirm that countries where women are at the helm of leadership have had greater success in managing the novel coronavirus.

" With this year’s celebration theme, “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”, We call on nations around the world, particularly the Nigerian Government to create special measures to facilitate the inclusion of women in our country’s political system.

" There is no better time than now, as the country undergoes amendment process to the Constitution and the Electoral Act. WIPF calls for a special Quota System to upscale the adequate representation of women in all spheres.

Acknowledging the first female vice president, and also celebrating the new DG of the World Trade Organization Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Barr Ebere said, 

" We join the world to celebrate Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation. As the first woman and first African to occupy this position, the WTO and by extension the global community will doubtlessly experience the impact of Women in Leadership.

" We also salute the first female Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris who broke the glass ceiling to emerge the number two global citizen. We are proud of these women and many more. "

" As we commemorate this year’s IWD, we call all women and men to #ChooseToChallenge obstacles limiting the adequate representation of women and girls in our society.

" We must challenge discriminatory legislation that puts women as second class citizens in their own country. "
