Lagos State Government To Deactivate Passports As Travellers Evade #Covid_19 Test.
Following the refusal of travellers to undergo the #Covid_19 test to help confirm their status, the Lagos State government has issued a warning to travellers dodging the test and has laid strong emphasis on deactivation of passports.
A document carrying update on #Covid_19 in Lagos state presented by the state Commissioner for Health Akin Abayomi and Gbenga Omotosho the Commissioner for Information and Strategy revealed that Lagos has recorded over 28,700 #Covid_19 cases and 236 deaths
It further revealed that only 213,000 out of 24 million people have undergone tests in the state.
According to the Commissioners, there is a surge of 8% in positive cases of inbound travellers this week
as Nigerians in diaspora return to spend the Christmas holiday in Lagos.
The document in part reads;
" A number of people paid for the #Covid_19 test, but refused to show up for testing. Efforts are being made through our logistics arm to reach this group of people.
“ These attempts have been met with challenges as several people used fake contact information while registering on the testing portal.
“ For the sake and safety of the general public, we request that the people in this group come for testing immediately, as we will submit the details of those that don’t to the Presidential Task Force for the deactivation of their passports.”
Speaking further, the commissioners said the state has intensified efforts to fish out buyers and sellers of fake COVID-19 test results stressing that the second wave of COVID-19 is an outcome of large religious gathering, school reopening, opening of the economy, social gatherings, entertainment, variants, general laxity, false sense of security and non-adherence to guidelines.
