Youths To Recover Institution From Former Governor Rochas


Members of Orluzurumee Youth Assembly approached the High Court in Owerri the Imo state capital over suit demanding immediate recovery of the Eastern Palm University in Ogboko from the former Governor which has allegedly been converted to private property.

Information reaching the news desk of MediaOrchid revealed that Communities like Umueshi, Umuchima, Ogwume, Obuoha and landowners from Ogboko community all in Orlu Senatorial District where Rochas Hails from came together in solidarity and   trooped down to the court.

The case which was filed on August 18 2020 with suit No. HOW/585/2020 and instituted by chief Celestine Uzoanakwe has the current governor of the State Sen Hope Uzodinma as 1st defendant while others have asked that all agreements on ownership of the university be nullified and set aside.


Uzoanakwe in response to the matter, said,

" The landowners were initially forced to donate the lands to the state government under the administration of Okorocha with the aim of making it the permanent site of Imo State University. However, soon as it got completed, the Ex Governor, converted it to 'Eastern Palm University Ogboko '.

" This was done without our consent or any form of compensation. Okorocha also refused to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on lands belonging to about 5 different communities in our area."

A former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Owerri branch who also is counsel to the plaintiffs LUN Nwakaeti  spoke to news men. He said,

" The matter is a clear case of Abuse of Office. The legal luminary has queried the reason a sitting Governor would use state authority to sign a law which directly benefits him converting public assets to private use."

Justice Vincent Onyeaka  adjourned the to case to September 29
