" Appoint A Female As New Emir" Hadiza Wife Of Gov El-Rufai To El-Rufai

Hadiza, wife of the Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has asked that a female be appointed to rule Zazzau (Zaria Emirate).

According to a report from HLN 365News, Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s wife, Hadiza Isma,  sparked reactions after asking her husband to install a female ruler for Zazzau Emirate, following the death of Emir Shehu Idris on Sunday.

The late emir Idris had ruled Zazzau, also called the Zaria Emirate, for 45 years. His death had created a vacuum that needed to be filled by a new emir.

Kingmakers had been shopping for a replacement. They were said to have zeroed in on four males from the four royal families for the slot.

Hadiza took to Twitter to ask her husband to appoint a female ruler for the Zazzau Emirate “In the interest of gender equality”.

It's speculated that it's in reference to the political history of the North which saw the emergency of a powerful woman, Queen Amina a Warrior that ruled that ruled Zaria emirate in the mid-sixteenth century.
