Wike Signs Revised Appropriation Bill Into Law As Response To COVID-19


Rivers State Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has signed the Rivers State Revised Appropriation bill into Law.

The Revised appropration law No. 7 of 2020 which was presented by the Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Ikunyi Ibani and Principal Officers of the House is to revise the Rivers State Appropriation law no 12 of 2019 and make provision for services of Rivers State for the year ending 31st December 2020.

In his remark, Governor Wike thanked the leadership and members of the House of Assembly for approving the revised budget for 2020. He highlighted the need for everyone to brace up to the current economic realities as Covid 19 has affected the economic activities and revenue to the Government.

Presenting the bill, Majority Leader of the House of Assembly Hon. Martins Amaehule said that the states expenditure was revised from a total of N530, 813, 357, 619.00 in the Appropriation law no 12 of 2019 to N300,370,071, 183. 32 in the revised law No 7 of 2020.
He said It would have a Total Capital Expenditure of 171,033,406,154.55 and a Total Recurrent Expenditure of 129, 336,662, 028.77.

The Speaker Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon Ikunyi commended the Governor for using his position to the benefit of the people of the state as the the revised budget showed that Governor Wike is taking action to ensure good governance. He said,

"The budget seeks to adresss civil infrastructure, construction, health care, and education as a response to the Covid pandemic."
