COVID-19 : Nigeria Loses 4 Influential Citizens In A Cardiology Hospital In Five Months


COVID-19 is perhaps the most difficult and painful challenge that nations all over the world are battling to overcome and Nigeria is no exception.

In Nigeria, the total number of confirmed  cases of persons infected with Corona Virus reads 46,140, with 33, 044 discharged and about 942 deaths recorded.

Among those who have died from complications as a result of infection from Coronavirus are a handful of prominent Nigerians from different geographical locations however four of these influential citizens were recorded to have passed on after been moved to First Cardiology Hospital specialist hospital located in Ikoyi Lagos.


First Cardiology Consultants, is said to be a reputable hospital with first class health facility. Unfortunately, the hospital has lately been in the News for reasons that Nigerians find unpleasant and questionable owing to the fact that very Influential Nigerians who were taken to the facility since April, 2020 never made it out.

Four Nigerians who died after been moved to First Cardiology Consultants where they were to receive treatment as a result of complications they suffered from coronavirus infection are ;

1. Dr Abba Kyari


Dr Abba Kyari 68, was the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari until his demise on 17th April 2020.
Abba Kyari was diagnosed of Covid-19 disease in March. He got infected while on an official trip to Germany. On his arrival into Nigeria, he was first taken to University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and later transfered  to First Cardiology Consultants Hospital.

Reports had it that he was responding to treatment. However, the nation received the shocking News of his death on the 17th of April. His remains was flown back into Abuja where he was buried at Gudu Cemetry.


2. Senator Bayo Osinowo



Senator Osinowo 64, popularly known as "Pepper" by his colleagues and followers was the senator representing Lagos east senatorial district. He died on 15th June 2020 at first Cardiology Consultants Hospital, where he was receiving treatment. It was speculated that he died from complications from Covid19 and was buried in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state.



3. Senator Abiola Ajibola Ajimobi

Abiola Ajibola Ajimobi 70, who was a former governor of Oyo state between 2011-2019. Senator Ajimobi was appointed the Deputy national Chairman (south) of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in January 2020. He was reported to have been infected  with Covid-19 on 19th June 2020, and was admitted in the intensive care unit of First Cardiology Consultants Hospital.

While in hospital, Senator Ajimobi was appointed as a factional acting national chairman of APC by the then National Working Committee of the party on June 16, 2020. He was announced dead on 25th of June exactly nine days later.

4. Senator Buruji Kashamu

Senator Kashamu 62, was a former senator that represented Ogun East Senatorial district.
He became the gubernatorial candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State in 2019, but lost the election to Chief Dapo Abiodun the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
He was also a factional leader of PDP in Ogun state.

Kashamu was reported to have tested positive to Coronavirus. However in the first week of August, it was reported that he was in a critical condition and was also battling other ailments which good severe as a result of the complications from infection from Coronavirus.
Kashamu was moved to First Cardiology Consultants Hospital were he was receiving treatment at the intensive care unit his demise on Saturday 8th August 2020. He  been buried in Ijebu-Igbo.
