NIMASA: Staff, Industry Stakeholders, Others Applaud Dr. Jamoh's Move To Bring Reforms.

Barely few months after taking over the mantle of leadership of Nigeria Maritime Adminstration and Safety Agency  (NIMASA) from the former Director General, Dr Dakuku Peterside as the new helmsman, Dr. Bashir Jamoh leaves no one in doubt that his mission is indeed to take the industry to greater heights.


Dr. Jamoh who started working with the service since 1993 was appointed by President Muhammad Buhari after 27 years in the agency.
His appointment elicited excitement and was applauded by staff of agency as first DG to be appointed within the Agency since its creation.

However, excitement that came with the appointment of Dr Jamoh was not limited to only staff of the agency but also stakeholders in the industry.

The newly appointed Spokesman and Director of Communication, Philip Kyanet described Dr. Jamoh's appointment as a; "Round peg in round hole" stressing that, NIMASA is in a safe hand.

The new DG earlier spelt out his three cardinal points as;  Shipping Development, Maritime Security and Seafarers  Development.
To achieve this, Dr Jamoh swung into action by reshuffling the management for optimum services and set result oriented goals.

This move he believes would help drive his reform and help him achieve his objectives one of which is the "Deep blue project, Anti-piracy law, Cabotage and reinvigoration of the system" .

Meanwhile, stakeholders of the industry charged the new DG to take the Industry to the next level and ensure the disbursement of Cabotage fund, Anti-piracy war, Blue economy, Placement of cadets onboard vessels and Indigenous participation of Nigerians in Merchant shipping.

The former president of the Shipowners Association of Nigeria (SOAN), Engr. Greg Ogbeifun appealed to Jamoh to ensure the timely disbursement of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF) and also use his wealth of experience to enhance indigenous capacity to address Maritime security in Nigeria.

Commending Jamoh's appointment also he said,it will lead to a greater development for the industry.

Also Speaking at the fora, was the immediate past president of Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA), Aminu Umar. He congratulated the new DG, declared total support for him and urged him to aim for a greater reforms in the industry.
