Senator Dr Iyorchia Ayu the National Chairman (Elect) of the PDP in his address welcomed all present while answering the question on 'Why the party decided to have a retreat.'

" I heartily welcome to this very important retreat of our wider party leadership from across the country. This is a very auspicious moment in the life of our party. It is not often that we get to assemble this way for deep thinking and exchange of ideas on the way forward for our party and our country, a country that has been badly Brutalized, robbed and traumatized in the past six years plus. Our country is in very deep trouble so we have a duty, and Nigerians expect us to rescue and rebuild the country.

Speaking on the need for a retreat he said,

" A retreat such as this is a form of orientation for those who are new to party leadership or even party politics, and a re-orientation for those who are experienced in it. It is a form of self-examination and renewal.

" It is to remind us of who and why we are as PDP and to inform those who do not know. It is to re-appraise and re-affirm our vision as a party and our mission in this political space called Nigeria : our various localities and the country as a whole. What do we really stand for? And what do we want to accomplish? Are we just a vehicle for fighting for and winning political power or a movement to rescue Nigeria from the clutches of oppressive and divisive forces and rebuild it for the greater good of all Nigerians? And where do we see our party's and Nigeria's role in Africa and the world.

" This threat is to energize us and rededicate us to that vision and mission," he added.

Goodwill Message By The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, at the Opening of Two Days Retreat by the PDP National Working Committee Elect, Today, Tuesday 23rd November 2021 at the NAF Center, Abuja

Protocols:

On behalf of our members in the House of Representatives, I address this august gathering of statesmen; leaders, critical stakeholders, friends and partners of our great party, the PDP, on the opening of this crucial two days retreat organized by National Working Committee-elect.

I dare say that this retreat is a bold and well-founded step which points to the zeal, passion, enthusiasm and readiness of our national officers-elect to build on the structures already laid by the outgoing NWC, our performing PDP governors and other organs and in our collective quest to rescue and rebuild our dear nation from the devastation of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Indeed, the success of the 2021 National Convention, especially the achievement of consensus on majority of the positions underlines the unity in our party and our readiness to take over power from the confused, incompetent, corrupt and anti-people APC.

The failure of the APC to conduct a national convention and achieve a structured leadership at all levels across the country underscores its rudderlessness and explains why our dear nation is in shambles under their watch. Of course, a political party that cannot successfully conduct its affairs, cannot be expected to successfully pilot the affairs of a nation.

It is against this backdrop that I must commend the proactiveness of our National Chairman elect, Sen. Dr. Iyorchia Ayu and his team in the NWC-elect in putting together this retreat within a very short time, to provide us the opportunity for stock-taking, honest self-assessment and bold decisions on what needs to be done to reposition our party for the task ahead.

The theme of the Retreat “Rescue and Rebuild Nigeria” underpins the patriotic outlook of our party in the pursuit of a new Nigeria that our citizens yearn for.

This retreat reassures Nigerians of the readiness and capacity of our party, as a government in waiting, to constructively chart a new course and lead the charge to rescue our nation from the front.

Nigerians cannot wait for the APC, the party of barefaced liars, swindlers, treasury looters and accursed oppressors, to go in 2023, so that our country can again experience the peace and economic prosperity they once enjoyed under the PDP.

The APC is fascist minded party. It does not believe in the unity of Nigeria. It does not believe in the prosperity, freedom and personal liberty of citizens. It does not believe in development nor even distribution of resources. It is at best, a cartel of power mongers and political bandits seeking only to devour the nation for their selfish gains.

The APC has no answers to the myriad of problems they created for our nation.  It has no solution to insecurity, no solution to the biting economic hardship and soaring unemployment rate, no solution to high cost of goods and other essential commodities, no solution to infrastructural decay and mortgaged future of our nation with N33 trillion accumulated debt under its watch.

If anything, what Nigerians expect from the APC is to apologize for its atrocities and fizzle out of our political atmosphere, come 2023. However, I must caution that the characteristic of predatory power mongers, the APC will fight to keep its wicked claws in the neck of our nation.

It will seek to deploy its stock-in-trade of propaganda, fake promises, false performance claims, intimidation of citizens and electoral manipulations in a desperate attempt to cling to power. We must therefore be ready to lead the charge in resisting APC shenanigans in the overall interest of our nation.

It is therefore elating that this retreat is tailored to draw up rescue roadmaps on critical areas, credible elections, including national security, unity and peace; economic recovery, job creation, infrastructural development as well as the yearning of Nigerians to have the PDP back to power.

We must begin by ensuring an end to APC misrule by resisting their rigging plots in the 2023 elections. We must also, as a government in waiting, strengthen our strategies to end killings, terrorism and banditry, reunite our citizens, ensure better living standards for our people.

We should come out with strategies to ensure greater citizens’ participation and reorder the productive energies of our people, particularly our youths, towards gainful ventures in critical sectors of our economy.

I believe we can articulate operable economic recovery strategies that will enable us achieve a single digit or at most a double-digit dollar exchange rate; a single digit unemployment rate, single digit bank lending rate; a double-digit fuel price and drastic drop in the cost of food, healthcare and other necessities of life.

I hold that these are achievable if we exert our energies along the line of our vision for a new Nigeria. Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources and we can always excel if we have the right leadership direction.

It is on this note that we must commend the organizers of this retreat. I am happy that we are not resting on our oars. With the caliber of resource persons and the discourse lined up for this retreat, I believe we will leave here better equipped for the task ahead. I see a victorious PDP and a new, prosperous, united and  secure Nigeria.

Thank you for listening, he added.
